More Rave Reviews Pour In For Delta Reign
Delta Reign is gaining even more momentum after a extremely busy summer the hot reviews for their record keep piling up.
Bluegrass Unlimited released their new issue with extremely high praise for the new record titled “Nothing But Sky”.
“This is easy listening bluegrass. The band simmers along with some sweet songs delivered in an unhurried style featuring Belinda Murphy’s vocals. On the fourth cut, they go up-tempo and drive into “Nothing But Sky,” a very catchy song. They dig in and get to the old mountain fiddle tune “Sandy Boys” or “Lonesome John” (both of which are the foundation on which Ralph Stanley built “Clinch Mountain Backstep”) for “Back Around The Mountain.” By this time, the listener is becoming fully aware of what a fine fiddler George Mason is on backup or lead.” MORE
Bluegrass Today followed up the next week with another page of praise for this recording. “The album moves back and forth between swingy, jazzy bluegrass and a more folk/acoustic country sound. Things start out on the folk side of things with Calico Sundown, a lost love number which lead vocalist Benita Murphy fills with longing. George Mason’s fiddle and Weissenborn lap steel from guest Aaron Ramsey add to the melancholy feel of the song. The trucking song Long Haul adds a bit of grass to the folk sound, thanks to Pat Murphy’s banjo. Both songs are enjoyable, and are reminiscent of something Kathy Mattea might have recorded in the 1990s.” MORE
